Janitors have seen it all: hundreds of cupcakes, water allergies, and paranormal dinner guests.

You’d have to be pretty smart to catch a janitor off guard; they have seen it all. From 100-cupcake marriage proposals to monochrome dining requests, hotel concierges offer creative solutions for guests’ every whim. More than just ordering soy milk with your coffee or securing a nearly impossible restaurant reservation, the most special guest requests are, like, green foods all the time out of the box.

Click here to view the slideshow of the 12 Extreme Concierge Applications.

Around the world, concierges cater to guests’ wants and needs that range from the charming and exciting to the truly unexpected. The Stanley Hotel, which inspired The Shining, hosts ghost tours, has storytellers who tell (true) ghost tales, and employs a paranormal investigator. Still, its concierge will never forget when a couple requested to have dinner with the ghosts of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley at the Cascades Restaurant, and they were severe. Then there are the requests that border on the downright weird. At the Four Seasons Resort in Whistler, a couple took a helicopter ride to a glacier and returned with a giant ice cube that had to be shipped home to South Carolina intact.

The good thing about these requests is how the hotel staff reacts. Ask a concierge what their favorite request has been or how it feels to take care of some of the most demanding requests, and (usually) they’ll be proud of the clever thinking and ingenuity that went into serving their guests. The staff at the DUKES London Hotel will never forget a woman who needed all white food. Not just white bread in sandwiches and white sugar instead of brown, literally everything had to be white. And the concierge at Charleston Place has learned that lavish and pampered orders aren’t just for adults. Last year, they hosted a family with an abundant feast for their son’s birthday, from Kushi oysters to grilled kangaroo. It was his son’s seventh birthday.

How do I save a recipe I find on Epicurious?

Click the “quoted to recipe box” button to save any recipe on Epicurious to your recipe box. (You’ll need to create or log in to your Epicurious account first.)

How do I rate a recipe or write a review of a recipe?

We encourage you to rate and review recipes you’ve made from the site: Sound off on what worked, what didn’t work, and what you did to make a recipe of your own. Our community’s recipe reviews and ratings are a big part of what makes Epicurious the best recipe site on the web. You guys know your stuff!

To rate and review a recipe: Sign in to your Epicurious account, click the “write a review” button on the recipe page, and select your fork rating. (Please note that if you’re the first person to rate and review a recipe, it might not display on the recipe page immediately. No need to submit it multiple times; it’ll show up soon, we promise!)

I see a recipe review. I’m pretty sure it’s spam (or just plain not appropriate). What should I do?

The Internet can sometimes be an ugly place, but we’re sorry if you saw that point came here. Click the “flag as inappropriate” button next to the problematic review, and it will be reviewed and removed if necessary by someone on our staff.

We work hard to keep our community lively, fair, and well-lit: You can review our User Agreement here.

Is it okay to add a recipe from a cookbook to the Member Recipe Database?
