Braun Series 7 7071cc Review Is it worth it 2022

Braun Series 7 es Unafeeitadora Con 3 Láminas Que Te ofRce Un Un Apurado Suave. Durante El Afeitado Es Más Fácil De Llgar a La Zonas Más Difícilles Porque El Cabezal ES MUY Elastyczne. Además, La Pude Usar en Seco o en Mojado Porque ES Resistente al Agua. Tiene ONZ Sensor de Barba Y Adapta Automáticamente La Potencia.

Pros: Good shaving performance, Wet and dry operation, Lightweight and well built, Perfect battery life, Generous accessory pack, Automatic cleaning station, Reasonable price.

Cons: Disappointing performance compared to previous Series 7. Better alternatives for the same money (or even less), a couple of obvious cost-cutting decisions.

As part of Braun’s new Series 7 lineup launched in early 2020, the 7071cc is shaping up to be the pick of the range thanks to its features and price.

A complete departure from the classic Series 7, the 7071cc and its siblings represent a very intriguing addition to Braun’s current line of men’s electric shavers.

I have been using the shaver extensively for three weeks to find out how good it is.

And in this Braun Series 7 7071cc review, I will share everything you need to know about this particular model. We’ll go over the pros and cons, how well it shaves and how it compares to other similarly priced Braun shavers, and the competition too.

Hopefully, by the time you get to the end of this review, you’ll know precisely if the 7071cc is the right shaver for you, or you’ll be better off with a different one.

Let us begin.

Description of the features

1. 360° flexible head

Braun uses this terminology extensively on the product page, so it must be a big

Deal. And it is. It is one of the distinguishing features of this Series 7 line.

All shavers, including the 7071cc in our test, feature an adaptive shaving head that can rotate in two planes: up and down and left and right.

Flexing up and down is nothing new, and we have seen it on all Braun shavers from Series 5 to 9.

The up and down flex of the new Series 7 head.

The novelty is the movement of the head from left to right. The 7071cc’s central unit is suspended on two unique mounts to achieve that.

The purpose of this setting is to ensure optimal contact with the skin, regardless of the area being shaved.

You can also see the shaft that drives the blades (covered by a white plastic sleeve). The two movable struts are made of metal and appear quite sturdy.

In the performance section of the review, I will go into more detail about the performance of the 360 Flex head during use.

2. 3-blade shaving head

  • The Series 7 7071cc shaving head is made up of 3 elements, so it’s ordinary in that regard. A primary trimmer cuts long, flat hairs and is flanked by two aluminum cutters, which trim hairs to skin level.
  • This micro-combustible plastic surrounds the center cutter. That intentionally feeds the hairs to the blades.
  • It reminds me of the razor head found in Braun Series 3 razors.
  • You can see the two cassettes side by side in the image below.
  • Series 7 (top) and Series 3 (bottom) shaving heads.
  • The three cutting elements of the Series 7 can also be moved independently, in addition to the above. 360 Flex of the entire central unit.

AutoSense technology

Another highlight of the Series 7 7071cc is the addition of a sensor that supposedly reads beard density and adjusts power accordingly.

We have also seen this technology in other Braun models, such as Series 9 and 8.

In the previous 7 Series, we used to have three or 5-speed settings, but Braun decided to ditch them in favor of this sensor on the new models.

I’ve never been a fan of these density sensors, as I haven’t found an implementation that feels useful yet. I prefer to have full power at all times, or at least choose the settings myself.

3. EasyClick Attachments

Also new to the new Braun Series 7 is a separate beard trimming attachment. Instead of having a built-in pop-up or slide-out trimmer, the 7071cc comes with a so-called Precision Trimmer that you swap out with the regular shaver head.

  • You can use it to trim your beard, mustache, or sideburns.
  • Other models also include up to 5 different combs that attach to the trimmer to get the desired beard length.
  • The 7075cc model comes with five comb attachments.
  • The 7071cc Series 7 does not have any combs and only comes with the beard trimmer.
  • We’ll see how well it works later.

4.SmartCare Center

Being a cc model, the Braun 7071cc comes with an automatic cleaning and charging station.

It’s now called Centro SmartCare, and it’s one of the main advantages of the 7071cc over the other non-cc Series 7 models that cost about the same.

The station charges clean and lubricates the shaver.

We’ll take a closer look at the station in the cleanup section of the review, as it does have a few caveats compared to other Braun stations.

5. Cordless, wet and dry use

The Braun 7071cc and all the other models in this new line are wet and dry shavers. You can use it in the shower or with your favorite shaving cream.

It also means the shaver won’t work while it’s plugged into an outlet due to safety issues (here are some of the best-corded shavers you can still buy).

The Series 7 7071cc is equipped with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery for up to 50 minutes of cordless use.

There’s also a handy 5-minute quick charge feature, which should allow you to complete a shave when an event catches you off guard.

As it is equipped with a universal voltage converter, you can use the Braun 7071cc anywhere in the world. However, you may need to purchase a simple plug adapter.

Since the 7071cc and the rest of the new Series 7 shavers are exclusive to the US market, they all come with a US power plug.

Construction quality and ergonomics.

The Braun Series 7 7071cc shows off the brand’s new design language that we’ve also seen with other 2020 US-only models, the new Series 6 and 5.

It has a slimmer sculpted body and a suspended shaving head, giving it a very distinctive look among all previous Braun models. While it doesn’t look as flashy as the official images might suggest, it’s still a very lovely-looking razor.

The 7071cc model comes in a silver and black color scheme, and you really can’t go wrong with that.

The shaver’s body is made entirely of plastic, but it feels pretty sturdy and well built. There are no rough edges or significant gaps in the panel.

Apart from the chrome aluminum frame and the ring around the top of the shaver, the plastic parts have a matte finish which should help keep marks and smudges to a minimum.

We have a reasonably generous thumb rest area on the front of the shaver, which integrates the power and status buttons.

The status button.

Pressing the latter will light up the battery level and other notifications if they are active (for example, the cleaning reminder).

Further down is the Series 7’s new LED display that shows various information such as battery level, travel lock status, cleaning reminder, etc.

They also show up when you turn the shaver on or off, so the status button is pretty redundant.

The travel lock can be activated by pressing and holding the power button for 3 seconds. A red padlock will flash at the bottom right of the screen to let you know the shaver is locked.

The scroll lock will be deactivated if you press and hold the on/off switch for 3 seconds.

The back of the Series 7 7071cc is entirely sterile, with no charging pins and no sliding trimmer.

The top is covered in a dimpled rubber-like material, extending to the sides. I would have liked it to cover the entire back (as in the previous model), but it still has adequate grip.

The slimmer handle and low weight of the shaver help too. It’s straightforward and comfortable to hold, and the position of that footrest is perfect.

Let’s now move on to the not-so-good parts.

My biggest gripe with the Braun Series 7 7071cc is the cassette’s lack of a release button. You need to grab it between your index finger and thumb and simply pull it out of the central unit.

And sometimes, it can be tough to remove as it requires quite a bit of strength, and you don’t have much influence. If your fingers are wet, it’s a real fuss. If you plan to use the beard attachment frequently, you will be doing this a lot, which can be frustrating.

To me, the lack of a release button or at least some tabs on the sides (like on Panasonic shavers) is a clear indicator of some cost-cutting decisions.

And in that regard, the new cassette used by the Series 7 7071cc and its siblings seem like a step down from the old one

And in that regard, the new cassette used by the Series 7 7071cc and its siblings seem like a step down from the old one.

There’s plastic instead of metal for the frames surrounding the foils, much like the entry-level Series 3 models.

The three cutters also don’t move as quickly as I would have liked on my review unit.

Another issue related to ergonomics is, in my opinion, the lack of a headlock switch. The 7071cc’s head can move freely, and there is no way to fix it when more control and finesse is needed.

Braun Series 7 7071cc Review Is it worth it 2022

For example, the old Series 5 has this feature, and so does the previous generation of S7.

Finally, the shaver head is more comprehensive than most other 3-blade foil razors.

The 7071cc (left) is next to the old Series 7.

The newer model’s aluminum frame is noticeably larger. And it seems unnecessary since the increase in size is due solely to the bulky shape of the chrome frame that surrounds the three cutters.

While it doesn’t look like much from the photos, you can notice the bulkier head during use, and it’s not quite as elegant as, let’s say, the previous-generation S7.

There are also several issues with the cleaning station, but I’ll address those in the cleaning and maintenance section.

Overall, the Series 7 7071cc build quality and ergonomics are pretty good, but with some significant caveats, particularly the lack of a cassette release button.

Accessories included

The Braun 7071cc comes with the following accessories:

  • Beard trimmer attachment
  • SmarCare cleaning station
  • 1 x CCR cartridge
  • charging cable
  • Cleaning brush
  • travel case
  • Warranty card and user manual

It’s a pretty decent package, in my opinion, especially for the price of the 7071cc.

As you can see, there are no included combs for the beard trimmer. You’ll have to go for one of the more expensive models like the 7075cc to get these too.

The hard travel case is handy and practical and can accommodate both the shaver and the trimmer.

No protective cap or lubricant is included, but that’s no surprise with Braun shavers.

I have to mention the user manual, and it is one of the worst I have seen from Braun. It’s just a booklet with lots of illustrations and a few helpful explanations.

Battery life and charging

Since battery life is quite essential since you can only operate the cordless Braun 7071cc

Traditionally, the 7 Series has always done very well in this regard, and luckily this one too. The 7071cc battery life is excellent, and you can quickly get two weeks of use (or 50 minutes) on a single charge.

Braun says three weeks, but that’s not entirely realistic, and his testing methodology probably doesn’t consider some real-world situations (such as very thick hair, a long shaving session, etc.).

However, the battery life of this shaver is excellent. A cc model can be charged through the cleaning station or by plugging the cable directly into the shaver’s charging port.

It uses the same charger that comes with almost all current Braun shavers (model 492-XXXX), so it’s compact, and the cord is long enough.

Again, you can charge the shaver anywhere in the world thanks to the universal voltage converter (100-240v).

Speaking of charging, it takes about an hour to go from 0 to full charge.

If you don’t have that time at your disposal, the 5-minute quick charge feature will come in handy, topping up the battery with enough juice to complete a shave.

As mentioned above, you will not be able to shave with the shaver plugged into an outlet. Shaver’s that allow this are getting harder to find as most are wet/dry models and have this feature disabled as a safety measure.

The Series 7 7071cc battery gauge is a simple progress bar that shows the remaining battery life. It’s nothing special, but it’s more valuable than what the Series 7 had in the past.

Overall, the Braun is still at the top when it comes to battery life, and the 7071cc doesn’t disappoint in that regard.

shaving performance

The interest and hype around a new Braun Series 7 are not surprising given this line’s ubiquity and popularity.

So let’s see how good the 7071cc is.

Important: All Series 7 models in this 2020 release are identical in performance. Therefore, this review will also be relevant for the other variations.

closeness of shaving

One of the most important things to consider when choosing an electric razor is how close you can shave.

Traditionally, this area has never been one of the strengths of Braun shavers. And the Series 7 7071cc continues on the same path.

Precisely not the closest razor at this price

Something like a Panasonic Arc 4 or Arc 5 will provide a closer shave, but they come with their specific caveats (more details in the alternative shavers section).

Going back to the Braun 7071cc, the shaver can get quite close to the skin, especially on the cheeks. And in all honesty, I think most users will find it satisfying.

In areas with thicker facial hair (in my case, it’s the chin and the area just below the nose), the closeness might be better.

After a dry shave, I could feel some slightly rough patches. Still, then again, that would also happen with other more expensive shavers, including the previous generation Series 7 or Norelco’s top-of-the-line models.

When using this razor with a quality pre-shave lotion or shaving cream, things are a little better. Not a huge difference, the main improvement is in the comfort department.

Braun Series 7 7071cc Review Is it worth it 2022

The bottom line is that the Braun Series 7 7071cc is nothing groundbreaking for close shaves. It comes close enough and will meet the needs of most users, but again, it’s not the best in that regard and not an improvement over the older S7 models.

These new 7 Series models have received positive feedback from users, even compared to their predecessors.

But one thing to keep in mind is that we’re dealing with a brand new shaver, while older ones are probably not in the best shape (worn/dull blades, old batteries, etc.).

I tried to be as objective and unbiased as possible when testing the 7071cc, especially when putting it up against the original seven series. And I just didn’t find it any better, at least not when it comes to the closeness of the shave.

Comfort

The 7 Series is synonymous with comfort, and that was, for many years, its main advantage over the competition.

So a new 7 Series like the 7071cc reviewed here would have to be at least as good, right?

Well, it isn’t. And therein lies the problem.

During my tests, the shaver was consistently a bit of a disappointment in that regard.

Dry shaving, susceptible areas like the neck, gave me some discomfort in pinching, itching, and redness after shaving.

Don’t get me wrong; it was by no means terrible but remarkable. It was especially the case when using faster strokes instead of slower, more controlled ones.

And even though the hair on my neck is thinner and not as dense as the hair on my chin, for example, that beard density sensor didn’t seem to make any changes to the razor’s behavior. Using short, slow strokes and very little pressure significantly reduced discomfort.

Another complaint I had with the Series 7 7071cc during a dry shave was that the foils got quite hot in the middle of my shave. Again, this is something I never experienced with previous S7 models.

Braun Series 7 7071cc Review Is it worth it 2022

They didn’t get as hot as some Panasonic Arc 4 and Arc 3 models, but that’s another area where the new S7 isn’t an improvement, on the contrary.

Using the Braun 7071cc with shaving cream was, on the other hand, a delightful surprise. While with most Braun shavers adding a shaving cream isn’t worth it, it improved my shave considerably.

While proximity was only marginally improved, comfort was sublime. It didn’t bother me at all, and everything went super smooth.

So if you don’t mind using shaving cream with electric razors, the Braun 7071cc will perform very well. It didn’t clog at all, and I only had to rinse the head a couple of times.

In conclusion, the shave comfort was disappointing, but mainly because I was expecting the best from a Series 7.

I would still recommend it for men with sensitive skin, but this is not if you want the most comfortable foil razor out there.

Shaving long, flat hairs

It is another area where the Series 7 was, in my opinion, an excellent performer. Even though foil shavers are at a disadvantage in these situations, the Series 7 was one of the most capable of dealing with difficult hairs. I am referring, of course, to those long, flat hairs that grow in different directions.

After testing almost all foil shavers, the Series 7 was second only to the more expensive Series 9 in this regard.

So with the new 7071cc Series 7, things should be at least as good.

Well, unfortunately, they are not.

The new razor does not appear to be as effective as the old one at capturing and cutting flat hairs.

The 7071cc head (left) is next to the old one.

More strokes are needed to capture and cut long hairs flat on the skin. I’d say even the older Series 5 (not the 2020 range) is slightly better at this.

Again, using shaving cream greatly improved results, so that’s one way around this. Another would be to shave more often simply. The shaver works much better if the hair is shorter, even for more stringy hairs with different grains.

So I would recommend getting the Braun 7071cc if you plan to use it regularly (for example, to shave daily or every other day). If you don’t have many flat hairs, you should also use them less often.

Speed, ease of use, and noise level.

This Series 7 7071cc feels adequately torquey and snappy, so I’d say it’s suitable for men with medium to thick facial hair.

Going for something like a Series 9 would make more sense for anyone with very thick, dense stubble. But in most cases, the Braun 7071cc should be up to the task.

As mentioned above, the AutoSense sensor should modulate the motor’s power output depending on the hair’s coarseness. I never noticed any change as it seems to be running at full power all the time.

And that’s not necessarily bad. I doubt that a drop in power would make the shaver more comfortable, for example.

However, the main problem that (at least in my case) leads to a more extended shaving session (compared to my previous S7) has to do with the new shaving head.

First of all, it’s broader and harder to see exactly what you’re doing. Second, the head and three cutter range of motion are relatively short, so it’s not as good as it could be for maintaining constant skin contact.

The older 5 and 7 series shavers are superior in this regard if you ask me.

And finally, the 7071cc needs more passes to get difficult hairs, like those that lie flat on the skin.

All of these seemingly minor issues affect the time it takes to complete a shave, which in my case was longer than average.

Despite the impressive 360 flex head of these Series 7 models, it doesn’t seem to get any better than a basic up and down motion.

And again, the wide aluminum frame makes them a bit more cumbersome to use than other 3-blade foil razors, including older versions.

As for the noise level, it’s pretty good for a foil shaver, but nothing dramatically better. It is still noisy, especially during use. The Series 9 remains Braun’s quietest shaver in its current lineup.

Beard trimmer attachment

While most electric shavers have a built-in trimmer, the new Series 7 Braun changed their approach entirely and opted for these removable trimmer attachments.

They call it EasyClick, and you are essentially getting a separate trimmer, and you have to remove the cassette and insert it in its place manually.

The 7071cc only includes the beard trimmer, so there are no different combs to maintain your beard.

Being quite large, at least compared to a regular pop-up trimmer, the new attachment should be quite a bit better at pre-trimming a full beard, for example. It also fits both ways (facing the front or back of the shaver), which is very handy.

However, I would not recommend it as your primary tool for maintaining a stubble beard. First of all, the Braun 7071cc does not include combs. Second, a beard trimmer would still work much better.

One of the models with a more extensive accessory package like the 7075cc or 7085cc would work well if you alternate between a stubble beard and a clean-shaven look.

As for negatives, there is still the inconvenience of manually removing the cassette and trimmer when you have to switch between them. Somehow I got better and just pried it from the top using my index finger; this seems to be much easier than just pulling the cassette/trimmer straight out.

And I have to express my disappointment again at the lack of a better release mechanism, especially considering the price of the Series 7. For example, Panasonic somehow managed to fit a couple of release tabs on their cheaper travel shavers than they cost a tenth of the Series 7.

Finally, the new EasyClick trimmer is not ideal for minor adjustments like shaping and trimming sideburns. It’s not very elegant and doesn’t seem to cut hair as effectively as some built-in trimmers. Again, Panasonic does this much better.

And there’s the problem of always having to carry an extra item so you can lose it or forget to pack it. For these reasons, I would prefer to have a built-in pop-up trimmer.

However, I shave often and don’t need to maintain or trim a beard.

And here is a practical example of why I find these click trimmers quite inconvenient.

When I tried the 7071cc, I had to deal with a couple of stray hairs that the foils just couldn’t catch. Usually, I would extend the trimmer with the razor still running, cut it off, and continue shaving.

With the 7071cc, I had to turn off the shaver, take the trimmer out of the cabinet, remove the cassette (which was full of hair clippings), snap the trimmer back in place, cut off any stubborn hairs, take the trimmer out, put the trimmer back in cassette and shave the remaining stumps. That’s a lot of extra steps.

So, in my opinion, the new EasyClick system on the Braun 7071cc is not ideal if you need a trimmer for some quick touch-ups.

I miss having a built-in trimmer. But as mentioned above, the separate attachment could come in handy if you need to trim your beard.

Cleaning and maintenance

The Braun 7071cc is one of the new Series 7 models with an automatic cleaning and charging station (along with the 7085cc and 7075cc).

As such, you have the option of cleaning the shaver using the station or manually.

automatic cleaning

Called Centro SmartCare, the station appears to be based on the Series 3 cleaning station, featuring the same protruding arm and missing some old Series 7 features, like the three cleaning modes.

The SmartCare center is included with the 7071cc.

It was one of the details that made me skeptical about the performance of the new Series 7 even before I used the shaver.

When I first saw the official images, the station immediately reminded me of my Series 3 3050cc, which is strange, as the Series 3 is Braun’s entry-level shaver family.

The large arm that holds the shaver makes the station less convenient and more difficult to store in your luggage. Since there are no longer cleaning modes, there is no LED indicator on the station.

There’s only one cleanup program, which, honestly, is perfectly fine. On the back of the dock, just above the charging port, a round button opens the dock. The cartridge must be inserted from the front (I appreciate it) until it clicks into place.

Be sure to remove the plastic cover from the cartridge before inserting it. I recommend storing that cover in a safe place, as you’ll need it later. After that, close the station, connect the cable, and you’re all set.

The shaver must be dry and free of suds/soap before cleaning at the station. I also removed the cassette and gently tapped the plastic frame in the sink to remove most of the hairs trapped inside. This way, they don’t end up inside the cartridge. It is one of the simple things you can do to find the solution and make it last longer.

I then insert the cassette and place the shaver inside the station, facing the holder.

Unlike other Braun shavers that feature a pair of contact pins on the back, the Series 7 7071cc doesn’t have any, so it uses the shaver’s charging port on the bottom to connect to the charging station.

Simply placing the razor in the station doesn’t do anything. You must press the button located on the top of the stand to connect the station to the shaver physically.

Once the button is pressed, the station automatically starts the cleaning process. And the consequence of this system is that you can no longer charge the shaver without cleaning it. It is another negative point for the new station, making it less practical than before.

The cleaning phase lasts just under 3 minutes, during which the shaver is switched on and off while the cleaning fluid is pumped through the shaving head.

The Braun Series 7 7071cc during the cleaning process.

It is pretty noisy, even though the shaver is quieter than before. I’m guessing the vibrations, along with the pump running, amplify the perceived noise quite a bit.

Since there are no LED indicators on the station, the ring around the button on the top will light up in different colors to indicate different states. During cleaning, the ring will flash blue and continue to flash blue while the shaver is charging.

When the cleaning liquid drops or the station considers it too dirty, the ring will turn yellow. When that happens, you will still be able to use that cartridge at least a couple of times.

red ring means the cartridge needs to be replaced.

Unlike the older stations, the SmartCare centers do not have an active drying system. It means that the moisture will evaporate over a few hours if you let the shaver sit in the station.

I prefer to take it out, remove the cassette and let it air dry. I also remove the cartridge and put the cap back on, as alcohol-based liquid tends to evaporate faster than other detergent-based solutions.

Aside from the station’s cons above, it’s still very good at cleaning the shaver, and considering the price difference between the 7071cc and other models that don’t have it, I think it’s still worth getting.

Cheaper third-party cleaning solutions are available, so additional running costs will also be relatively low.

And you don’t have to use the station after every shave. In the meantime, you can clean the shaver manually and just use the station like once a week, for example.

In this way, you will save the cleaning liquid and prevent dirt in the cassette. Just be sure to put the cover back on the cartridge when not in use.

manual cleaning

You can also clean the Series 7 7071cc by hand.

The process is quite simple, but since the blades and foils cannot be separated, it could lead to some dirt getting trapped inside the cassette.

The intricate inner part of the cassette.

That’s why I think the station is quite helpful. As before, with the shaver off and unplugged from the cord, I recommend removing the cassette and gently tapping most of the hair

Only hit the plastic frame on a surface and never the sheets, as they will be damaged. You can also use the included brush, but only inside the cassette, never directly on the slats.

After that, put the cassette back in place, turn on the shaver and rinse it under warm tap water.

For a deeper clean, put a few drops of liquid soap on the foils, add a little water and turn on the shaver for 15-20 seconds.

After that, rinse it with lukewarm water while it is still working.

Turn off the shaver, remove the cassette and rinse it thoroughly, inside out. Shake off excess water and allow parts to air dry before storing shaver. That’s pretty much it.

I noticed while rinsing the razor that a stream of water seemed to flow from the bottom. On closer inspection, I saw two small holes inside the charging port, part of an internal drainage system.

Braun doesn’t mention anything explicitly about this, but it’s an exciting idea nonetheless.

Lubrication

If you use the cleaning station regularly, there is no need to lubricate the shaver yourself. The cleaning solution also acts as a lubricant.

But if you use it rarely or not at all, it is recommended to reduce blade wear and get the most out of your Series 7.

It is essential to clean it with soap, as doing so will remove any traces of lubrication.

You can use a light oil such as sewing machine oil, clipper oil, or an electric razor spray lubricant.

A single drop on each foil will suffice (and one on the trimmer attachment blades). Just make sure they’re dry and turn the shaver on for a few seconds to distribute the oil evenly between the cutters.

Here is a complete guide on how and when to lubricate your razor.

availability of spare parts

The Braun 7071cc Series 7 uses a new shaving head (cassette) with part number 73s ( silver s).

Other Series 7 (2020 edition) models come with the 73b part, which is simply the black variation of the head but otherwise absolutely identical to the 73s. It’s no wonder the new cassettes aren’t available yet, as the 7071cc and co have only recently been released. They don’t even appear on the Braun website.

I’m sure they will be available in the US, and although there is no word on the price, I think it will be pretty reasonable. And you should be aware of the fairly obvious cost-cutting measures (no release tabs, plastic frames).

Cleaning hubs and various accessories should also be available separately (that would benefit the user). Again, at this point, they cannot be purchased separately. I will update the review once there is any news about it.

Summary: Who should buy the 7071cc?

First off, I think it’s important to note that this new 2020 Series 7 update was released exclusively in the United States. So the 7071cc, along with the rest of the variations, may be harder to come by if you live outside of the US.

Also, although they are pretty reasonably priced, the price advantage could very well disappear with freight and customs charges. In that situation, you may be better off with one of the earlier Series 7 shavers, such as the proven 790cc.

But if shaver shopping isn’t an issue, Braun’s 7071cc could be a compelling option.

Performance is generally good, although, during my tests, it was not as good as its predecessors. I think it’s a decent option for someone just getting into (higher quality) electric shavers from Braun.

Closeness will be satisfactory for most users, but if you’re picky about it, I think a similarly priced Panasonic will give better results (more details in the next section).

It’s very comfortable when used with shaving cream, but I didn’t find it that smooth during a dry shave. If you have somewhat sensitive skin, I think you’ll be fine, but I’d recommend looking at other Braun models if the problem is more serious.

Finally, the performance in a three-day stubble was not stellar, so again I would only consider the Series 7 7071cc to shave more often. Other more capable razors work better with long, flat hair.

For current Series 7 users, an upgrade to the Braun 7071cc doesn’t make sense. Strictly shaving performance-wise, it’s not an upgrade.

That said, let’s look at some alternatives to the 7071cc.

alternative razors

Braun Series 5 5190cc

The Series 5 is still a great option, especially considering the price/performance ratio. I am referring to the current Series 5 shavers, not the 2020 generation released alongside the new Series 7.

In my opinion, the S5 will be a better choice for most users.

Here are some critical advantages over the 7071cc:

  • Slimmer shaving head
  • Better performance with long and flat hairs
  • Integrated sliding trimmer
  • head locking mechanism
  • A more convenient cleaning station (you can charge the shaver without cleaning it, no extension arm)
  • More comfortable, a little faster
  • Head release buttons
  • Ribbons are widely available and reasonably priced
  • can be bought for less money

Looking at the facts objectively, it’s tough to recommend the 7071cc over the 5190cc, for example. In my opinion, it is a superior product in every way and can sometimes be found at a better price.

And that’s one of the biggest problems with the Braun 7071cc and the new 7 Series in general: there are better options that can also cost less.

Panasonic Arc 5 ES-LV65-S/ES-LV95-S

Panasonic’s second-generation Arco 5, like the ES-LV65-S, is another worthy alternative.

Although the situations in which I would recommend it over a Braun shaver are pretty different, it is still worth checking out.

If getting a very close shave is what you’re most interested in, you don’t have susceptible skin, and you tend to shave more often, you’ll probably be happier with a Panasonic Arc 5 . You can opt for one with or without a cleaning station (depending on your budget)

Braun Series 7 790cc

Finally, the classic Series 7 is a shaver that needs no further introduction.

Despite a couple of known issues, it is one of the most versatile, comfortable, and reliable shavers out there. Precisely the poorly implemented head locking mechanism and the paint just below the head would peel off after years of exposure to the cleaning solution.

But other than that, you really can’t go wrong with her.

I find the performance to be better in all aspects, especially when it comes to speed, comfort, and how it deals with long, flat, and tangled hairs.
