15 Best Eco-Friendly Bamboo Toilet Paper Double Length Rolls 2022

Bamboo toilet paper ?” More and more of you are asking us questions about this, and we thought it was the perfect opportunity to answer them in a blog post.

But then, why bamboo?

We do this for the trees! We did not know it at first, but bamboo is, in fact, grass, or more exactly, grass. It is the fastest growing plant on our planet, with some species growing up to one meter daily. Crazy, right? To put that into perspective, tell yourself that it would take years for a tree to grow that big. And that’s one of the reasons why we chose bamboo as the raw material for our feel-good toilet paper. Thanks to this extraordinary plant, we avoid participating in the rampant deforestation that threatens our primary forests.

Ok, but how does it get in my bathroom?

With ease! Well almost. Bamboo fiber is very similar to cellulose fibers from trees. It is why the transformation process into pulp, then into a roll of toilet paper, is similar. Are we making a point again?

Raw materials 🌱We harvest 100% FSC ® certified bamboo in Sichuan Province, which we grind to make shavings before making a pulp that will be used to make our toilet paper.

  1. Processing

The bamboo chips are then left for hours in a digester where a mixture of water and heat is used to separate and isolate the fibers used to make paper. Most? We do not need to use chemicals to extract them, unlike some products such as wet toilet paper or diapers. All the waste is then used to produce energy! Cool, right?

Pulping

Well, we are still far from the final product! Bamboo mixed with water needs cleaning before its fibers are soft and white enough for your behind. The fibers are then washed and bleached in washing machines using chlorine dioxide, an agent that does not contain elemental chlorine. Well, now we can make toilet paper. And all this, using 60 times less water than an ordinary roller!

Mother coils

In our little world of sweetness, this liquid paste is directly transformed into paper, and we will make what we call “mother rolls.” These reels are XXL size toilet paper rolls. To make them, the slurry mixture is sprayed onto belts where water is expelled using steam generated by solar energy. This mixture, still a little wet, is then deposited on a giant rotating drum which binds the fibers to make a super soft paper.

Packaging

After testing its softness and resistance, we assemble four mother rolls to have a long roll of four thicknesses of paper which will then pass through the embossing box and the perforation. Most? Thanks to the embossing pressure, we can avoid using glue or substances of animal origin to hold the sheets together. “But does that mean it’s vegan toilet paper?” Well, you have to believe. The last step is to cut this long roll into small rolls, wrap them individually with our pretty soy ink printed paper, and put them in a box so they can find their way to your room. Bath! And all that, without any single-use plastic 💦

And so, is it as gentle as the one I usually use?

Just because it’s a more durable fiber doesn’t mean we’ve given up on quality. On the contrary, our products will delight all lovers of softness, resistance, and comfort!

Want to help us slow down deforestation and plastic pollution? Cool! It’s time to order your first Mima® box!

Great !!!

I already ordered and used two boxes, and I can’t live without them. I see the difference with other toilet papers. Have you considered expanding your range to paper handkerchiefs? I like your toilet paper so much that I also use it to blow my nose at home, and it does its job well!

13 Best Biodegradable Toilet Paper Options to Use in the Woods

There are two topics hikers love to talk about on and off the trail: food and poop. A topic that often comes up about shit is the use of toilet paper or its alternatives. Here we dive deep into biodegradable toilet paper so you can stay clean and leave no trace.

Biodegradable vs. Regular Toilet Paper

Commercial toilet paper, like your Cottonelle and Charmin, is naturally biodegradable. These sheets are made from natural wood and begin to decay as soon as they get wet. Toilet paper can take up to a month to break down under ideal conditions. In less than ideal woods, toilet paper can hang around much longer.

The rate at which the paper degrades is what differentiates biodegradable toilet paper from regular toilet paper. Biodegradable toilet paper breaks down four times faster than standard toilet paper. This speed is extremely important, especially in a private or chat hole. Wouldn’t you rather walk past a harmless pile of decomposed, biodegradable toilet paper than step on a coarse toilet paper flower? Biodegradable toilet paper also won’t clog drains, making it ideal for RVs and your home.

Things to look for (considerations)

DISPOSAL: Wipes cannot be buried

When it comes to biodegradability, toilet paper is the preferred choice. It will break down faster than any other commercial option. Wet wipes are so much easier to wipe down but don’t break down. Even if you bury a wet wipe, it won’t break down like toilet paper. You should carry wet wipes if you use them.

Where To Find Merino Wool

The wipes cannot be buried and must be packaged (even biodegradable).

PACKAGING: CONSIDER TISSUES, PAPER WITHOUT COREL, OR TABLETS

You can buy toilet paper in different forms. The typical role is you can fold up and stuff in your bag. You can also take toilet paper compressed and shaped it into a tablet. The tablets are very compact, allowing you to store several of them in your package if needed. They are a little more difficult to use because you have to unzip them before wiping them off. Another alternative is paper tissues, which are conveniently packaged in stand-alone packages.

Two types of squeezable biodegradable toilet paper are ideal for backpacking.

MATERIAL: WOOD PULP VS BAMBOO VS ALTERNATIVES

Standard toilet paper is made from wood pulp, but that’s not the only material used in TP. You’ll also see biodegradable materials like bamboo, which is soft and naturally antibacterial. There is also hemp and sugar cane paper made from the waste generated during sugar manufacture.

STRENGTH: 1-PLY, 2-PLY OR 3-PLY

You often see toilet paper advertised as one ply, two plies, or three plies. A single-ply has a single sheet, a two-ply has two, and a three-ply has three sheets. The higher the fold, the more absorbed the toilet paper is. Since there are more layers in each square, the higher thickness toilet paper will be heavier to carry and take longer to degrade. Toilet paper can also be ‘padded.’ Quilting is a way of fusing layers of toilet paper to give it some volume. It makes the toilet paper fluffier, but it doesn’t change how it wipes your butt.

ECO-FRIENDLINESS: BEWARE OF CHEMICALS

Depending on the toilet paper, the paper can be treated with BPA, fragrances, dyes, bleach, and more to soften the fabric and make it easier on your butt. It may not be the best choice for the environment either. Choose toilet paper from biodegradable materials like bamboo, hemp, and others.

Coleman Camper Toilet Paper

Coleman’s Camper toilet paper is a basic biodegradable toilet paper. It has a convenient plastic dispenser that makes it easy to remove a wipe without dropping the entire roll in the dirt. The dispenser also prevents the roll from getting wet if removed in the rain. Since it has no core, it takes up minimal space in the pack. Each package contains three dispensers containing 65 feet of 2-ply toilet paper.

Coghlan’s Camp Toilet Paper

Have you ever tried to roll your toilet paper for a trip but can’t make it small enough? Don’t waste your time. Just grab a packet of Coghlan’s Camp toilet paper. Pre-packaged rolls are rolled up tightly for storage with just the right amount of biodegradable sheets (140) per roll. The package is resealable to keep the tissues inside clean and dry. A bit expensive for a one-ply toilet paper.

Best of all, they’re biodegradable, so you can bury them in a cathole, knowing they’ll decompose.

KULA Cloth

Technically a pee cloth, the Kula fabric deserves mention for the ladies on the trail. The highly absorbent antimicrobial material helps keep you cool and dry on the trail. It cuts down on toilet paper and is wide enough that you won’t get your hands wet when wiping. It resists odors and is easy to clean when you’re in town. You can hang it on your bag to dry when you’re done.

Suppose you don’t like the idea of hanging a pee cloth from your bag. You can opt for a pee funnel, which allows you to stand up and pee. Funnels direct pee away from your body, so you don’t accidentally pee on your shoes or clothes touching the floor when you sweat. Pro tip: practice at home with the funnel before hitting the track. You don’t want to accidentally pee on your clothes miles away from a washing machine.

You will need to pack it yourself and use a Ziploc bag to carry it in your bag.

Freedom Living Toilet Paper

On the other hand, it’s not as strong as the other toilet papers on this list, but still good value for Money and a good option for backpacking needs and septic systems that clog easily. It provides 500 sheets for each roll and can be ordered in packs of 4 or 8.

You all need to wrap your mini-roller and store it in a Ziploc bag.

Although biodegradable, they are not meant to be thrown down the drain.

How to poop in the woods

1. Know the regulations: Know the regulations in your area before choosing a place to poop. A few heavily traveled trails, the alpine zone, and wilderness areas require people to pack their droppings. In these areas, you want to use a wag bag.

How To Start A Fire In The Desert Without Matches

2. Choose your location carefully: Stay away from where you are camping because you don’t want anyone getting into your pack. You also want to avoid water sources (within 200 feet), so you don’t contaminate them. Find a private location with soft, organic-rich soil to dig a cathole.

3. Dig a hole: Use a trowel, stick, or hiking stick to dig a hole 6-8 inches deep and about 4-6 inches wide. (according to Leave No Trace Guidelines )

Side Effects Of Too Much Masturbation

4. Squat down and go to #2 in the hole: To help balance yourself, you can grab a tree leaning back while you squat. You can also sit on a fallen tree and hang your butt from your back. The hardest position is the freestanding squat, which is how they do it in Asia and requires flexibility.

5. Clean: Clean with toilet paper or wipes. Ideally, you want to make wipes or toilet paper, even biodegradable ones.

6. Cover your cathole with the original soils and other natural materials.

7. Clean your hands: Use hand sanitizer to clean your hands if you have it. If you must use water to wash your hands, do not wash your hands in a water source. Collect the water in a bottle, then clean your hands away from the water source.

Questions and Answers

Should I wrap up my shit or bury it?

According to the Principles of Leave No Trace, you should take all non-human waste, including biodegradable toilet paper. This helps keep trails and campsites in pristine condition. You may think burying the paper solves the problem, but weather and erosion will likely dig up the paper before it has time to biodegrade, which will scatter it throughout the area.

How do I wrap my poop?

If the ground isn’t soft enough to dig a hole in, you’ll need to wrap your poop with the toilet paper you used. This can be achieved easily using a so-called wag bag. Think of it as a dog bag for human waste. The bag has a wide opening wide enough to hook your butt into.

Once you pack your things, the bag can be secured until you need it again. Most of these wag bags contain a gelling agent that solidifies the bag’s contents eliminates odors and prevents spills. You can also collect your poop with a Ziploc bag and the double bag for transport.

What if I don’t have toilet paper?

If you don’t have toilet paper, you can use natural alternatives. Striped maple has large, hoof-shaped leaves that are ideal for wiping. You can also grab smaller sheets. Just make sure you have enough of a handful for full coverage. You can also grab a piece of moss, which is damp, moist, and holds up well to wiping. Stick to the leaves you know to avoid irritation or allergic reactions.

Can I bury biodegradable wet wipes?

No, you cannot bury biodegradable wet wipes. Typical wet wipes often contain plastic fives that do not break down. A few brands of plant-based, plastic-free wet wipes are biodegradable. These biodegradable wipes break down in weeks instead of decades. If you choose wet wipes over toilet paper, take them with you.

What do I need in my backpack toiletry bag?

It would help if you had a backpack toiletry bag in an accessible part of your backpack, so it’s ready to go when you are. You can assemble your toiletry kit using the following items:

  • Trowell : (0.6oz)
  • Toilet Paper: (1oz)
  • Ziploc bag for poop and toilet paper: (0.1 oz)
  • Hand sanitizer: (2oz)
  • Bag to hold all of the above: (0.2 oz)

The total weight of this kit is approximately 4 oz. Instead of toilet paper, some people opt for a bidet that uses water to wash your back. This 0.42 oz Portable Bidet by CuloClean can be used with any plastic water bottle.

How much toilet paper do I need?

The amount of toilet paper you need varies from person to person. Please keep track of how many squares you use at home and cut them in half. You want enough to protect yourself, but not so much that it becomes heavy to carry, especially if you store it.

Women usually need more toilet paper because they use it to pee and poop. Ladies, if you want to reduce your toilet paper use, consider using a pee cloth.
